The Holistic Shampoo that Restored my Hair’s Health

My Favorite Holistic Shampoo | Super-Natural, Ultra-Nourishing, Effectively Cleanses | glow_notes @ http://glownotes.co

My favorite haircare line, Morrocco Method, covers all the bases: It’s all natural and really, truly establishes a balance between cleansing the hair and nourishing the scalp. If you’re looking for a shampoo that works with a healthy lifestyle, get out your green beauty bingo card and get ready, because these products are: Raw, Vegan, Paleo, Wildcrafted, Sulfate-Free, Gluten-Free, GMO-free, as well as non-foaming, cruelty-free, color-safe, and made in the USA. Bingo!

What inspired my search for the ultimate green beauty haircare?

About 2 ½ years ago, my hair was in crisis mode. This is what happens when your inner physical health has a hiccup and goes from vibrant to wonky. I was searching for anything that would help my hair find its equilibrium once again. After a few failed attempts at going ultra-natural with my haircare, I decided to try out Morrocco Method and see if it would help me.

But first, I had to play mad scientist with my hair cleansing routine

By trial and error, I’d established that conventionally foaming shampoos did not give my hair what it needed, even if they were ‘all-natural’ or ‘organic.’ So, I tried the no ‘poo method for six months – often with hilarious results. Then I tried water washing only – and gave up on that after only a week. Finally, I remembered bookmarking an all-natural haircare website over a year earlier – that site happened to be Morrocco Method. At that point, not only had I exhausted my other options, I was exhausted from trying. I just wanted a product that was easy to use and effective.

A perfect balance between cleansing the hair and nourishing the scalp

These products are unlike anything else I’ve found. You have five shampoos that you rotate, since the ingredients in each formula nourish your scalp differently. The viscosity of each shampoo is like a non-sticky gel, the colors are varying shades of earthy brown, and the scents come from the ingredients only and smell akin to an herbalist’s garden: complex levels of botanical sweetness deepened by soil and roots – pure olfactory pleasure.

A different approach that leads to better results

You also wash differently, diluting the shampoo with water, applying it with a squeeze bottle and using a pair of scalp massagers to massage it in. It’s also recommended that you shampoo twice: once to cleanse, twice to nourish. When my hair was in the thick of recovery mode, I’d do this religiously. Nowadays, I double-shampoo when I’m feeling fancy and want that extra oomph.

Balanced hair and scalp require less work and less products

There are conditioners, too, if your hair needs the extra moisture. I’ve tried them all and they’re very lovely, however my current hair climate doesn’t need any conditioner since Morrocco Method shampoos cleanse away excess oil without completely stripping hair dry. My hair is shiny, bouncy, and happy with shampoo alone. I do use the hair gel for blowouts, and the clay hair mask when I’m taking a long bath. And I’m eyeing the dry shampoo for me, and the dog shampoo for our pooch, Coco.

Here are a few of my favorite tools that enhance my haircare routine

  1. Rubber Scalp Massagers: I use a pair of these, one in each hand expedites the process, to give myself a little scalp massage while the shampoo is in my hair. Scalp massage is an essential step in the cleansing process and ensures that the nourishing ingredients reach the scalp’s hair follicles.
  2. Wide-Mouthed Squeeze Bottle: Morrocco Method shampoo is super-concentrated, so you’re encouraged to dilute the shampoo in a 50:50 ratio with water, shake until the mix is frothy, and apply. I recently switched from super-saturating my hair with water and applying the shampoo directly to my scalp, to diluting the shampoo in a squeeze bottle. Curiously enough, I find that water is a ‘performance enhancer’ for the shampoo: The addition of water enhances the effectiveness of the cleansing.
  3. Natural Boar’s Hairbrush or any natural boar’s hair brush: If you want soft and manageable hair without using loads of styling products, get a natural boar’s hair brush and brush often. Aside from regular styling, I brush my hair before I shower and before bedtime, and I’ve found that my hair’s texture and strength have improved with this routine.
  4. Silicone Travel-Sized Tubes: I fill these up and keep them in my shower to reduce bulk. They’re made of durable silicone, have a wide mouth for filling, and are easy to clean. The color-coordination between the original shampoo packaging and tubes requires no additional labeling. If you purchase a trial set, you can use those mini bottles instead – I did this for a couple of years until they wore out. These were purchased as a replacement.

Try a real solution for healing your hair and scalp, naturally

If your hair is in need of some TLC: healing, nourishment, and care – and you’ve tried conventional natural shampoos without much improvement – I recommend giving Morrocco Method a try. I’d start by purchasing one of Morrocco Method’s trial-sized starter packs. I first ordered my starter pack at the beginning of January ’15 and ended up reordering the full-sized shampoos exactly three months later in April. The shampoos lasted me over three months with daily use on below-shoulder length hair – my hair was longer back then – and the conditioners ended up lasting me the whole rest of the year. Here’s the set I first purchased; you’ll get to try everything – shampoos, conditioners, scalp massager – all the treats. If your hair climate doesn’t need conditioner, you can purchase the shampoo-only set and try all five shampoos without the extras.

To be continued…I have so much more I’d like to share with you 🙂

I’ll go into further detail on my shampoo routine, boar’s hair brushing, what it’s like to detox your scalp from conventional haircare products, and any other questions you may have on natural haircare in future posts – so please, ask away!
